05 / HOW WE BUILD

A solution becomes a product once the need repeats.

Two ways in: a client pays for a build and others want the same thing, or a tool built for our own 375 consultants turns out to be every firm’s gap. Then it is extracted onto the shared layer with clean IP.

THE LOOP

  1. 01

    Design

Architected for the client’s constraints — and, quietly, for reuse.

    INSIDE A RAVEN ENGAGEMENT

  2. 02

    Deliver or use

It goes live and sells again, or our own consultants run on it every day.

DEMAND TEST ON A PAID BUDGET

  3. 03

    Encapsulate

Four clients or teams, 70% of delivery repeating, two renewals: the core comes out with clean IP.

    WHERE THE INVESTMENT GOES

  4. 04

    Productise

The five layers make it multi-tenant, metered, observable and secure.

    WHERE THE INVESTMENT GOES

  5. 05

    Distribute

Raven accounts first, then direct, with partners extending the reach.

PART OF THE RAVEN GROUP

Raven is a 375-person consulting group operating worldwide. Five Layers is its software house: the same people, working on products instead of projects — and never selling services, so a partner never competes with us.

Practically, that means there are consultants in your country who know the product, can implement it and stay after go-live — a rare combination for software of this kind.

THE NAME

The name is an inventory, not a metaphor.

Most software companies name themselves after an idea. We named ourselves after the thing we actually own: five layers of platform — build, run, know, sell and hold — staffed once and inherited by every product in the house. Count them and the name is spent.

It is also why the economics work. A product team here does not rebuild single sign-on, billing or a compliance programme — it inherits five working layers and spends its time on the one part only it can build.

Five bars

One per layer. Not four, not six — the mark is the same inventory the name is, so it can be checked.

Widening downward

Each bar carries the ones above it. The lower a tier sits, the more of the house depends on it.

One blue base

The single accent sits on the foundation, never on the top: this is what everything rests on.

Right-aligned

Flush on one edge, the way a real structure is built against a wall — and the way our product brands sit against the platform without wearing its name.

A brand in fifteen markets, a firm that cannot see its margin, a process waiting to be automated, a loyalty programme that has to work. One of the six usually starts the conversation.
